Selections from Dear Mr. Duncan

As part of our celebration of Black History Month, we will be presenting a program of selections from Dear Mr. Duncan, a musical I wrote to highlight the contributions of Todd Duncan. Duncan was the first Black vocalist to sing with a major opera company and was the first Porgy in Porgy and Bess. He was an artist, educator, and advocate for equal rights in Washington, DC.

South American countries have left an enduring mark on many musical styles including jazz, classical, and popular music. Join the World MusicCollective as we explore some of these composers, artists, and songs that have influenced art and culture around the world. Our program will include tango, bossa nova, and original music from our Argentinian-American guitarist Cristian Perez.
